Midtown was a pop punk band hailing from New Jersey USA. They formed in 1998 and took advantage of the pop punk revolution in the late 90’s.
After releasing an EP in ’99, they soon were signed up to Drive Thru Records, with many other budding pop punk and emo bands. This allowed them to tour with bands such as New Found Glory, Something Corporate and TheMovielife, to establish themselves in the genre.
They released their first full length effort through Drive Thru Records in 2000 and was producedby Mark Trombino (also collaborated with JimmyEatWorld, Blink 182 and Finch). Save the World, Lose the Girl proved to be a hit and was award a 5 star review from Punknews.org.
The band established themselves further by being signed to MCA Records to release theirsecond album. Continuing with their upbeat, pop rock style, Living Well is the Best Revenge became a vital pop punk album when arguably the genre was at its peak.
Songs such as ‘Like a Movie’ began to gain airplay and ‘Find Comfort in Yourself’ was featured on compilation album ‘Atticus…dragging the lake’.
Their final album came in 2004 and was recorded whilst not actually signed to a label. Columbia records picked them up to be a part of their roster. The album saw the band take a new direction and their style drifted from pop punk into slightly more contemporary rock. The album sold well enough but negative reviews dampened what should have been their breakthrough album. The lead single ‘Give It Up’ was featured in the video games ‘Burnout 3’ and ‘Madden NFL 2005’.
The band split in 2005. Gabe Saporta is now the frontman of Cobra Starship. Heath Saraceno went on to the emo-punk band Senses Fail but then left in 2009
